Government will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety of the people – President Yameen

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has assured the Maldivian people that the Government will take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of the people. The President made this remark in his address to the people, on the occasion of the country’s Victory Day.

In his message, President Yameen noted that the most valuable lesson to be learnt as we commemorate our Victory Day was that there were conspirators in our country and abroad, who discreetly and openly desired to destroy the peace and harmony of our country. The President highlighted that it has been proven that the motive behind the dangerous attack on the presidential speedboat “Finifenmaa” on 28th September 2015,was such an act of greed to attain power.He also assured that all persons responsible for the crime will be brought to justice.

Highlighting the terrorist attack on November 3rd, 27 years ago, the President noted that it was by far the most frightening and dangerous attack faced by Maldivians in recent history. The President said that, with the Grace of Almighty Allah, the Maldives, its national security forces and the people had emerged victorious on that day; and expressed his gratitude and praise to the brave soldiers and members of the general public who fought for the independence, sovereignty and security of the country. He said that Maldivians will always remember the heroes who were martyred while defending our beloved nation that day.

President Yameen has also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the commendable work of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom,who protected the people of Maldives with patience and bravery.

Furthermore, President Yameenpointed out that there was a minority of people who were determined to gain for themselves and disregard the well-being of the whole nation. The President said that these incidents prove that there were a few people who do not hesitate to instill fear in the people’s hearts, or place the people in harm’s way for their own temporary gains.

In his address, the President appealed to all the Maldivian citizens to bring forward patriotism and to be aware of traitorous plotters. He said that there were important lessons to be learnt from our experiences, and urged all Maldivians to be strong Muslims and be sincere and loyal to this nation.He also called upon all Maldivians to work together to foster the spirit of cooperation, and defend our national independence and sovereignty.
