The new Ambassador of America appointed to the Maldives, His Excellency Atul Keshap has presented his credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Monday morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Keshap on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the Maldives and America, especially in the area of education.
President Yameen highlighted the fifty years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and expressed hopes for stronger ties during Ambassador Keshap’s tenure.
At the meeting, the President and the American Ambassador held discussions on issues of mutual interest encompassing global terrorism, human rights and environmental problems. The President and the Ambassador also spoke on ways to tackle the challenges being faced in these areas.
Ambassador Atul Keshap expressed deep concern over the blast on the presidential speedboat on September 28th, which led to the First Lady and others suffering injuries.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon.
