President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has urged all Maldivian entrepreneurs and State-owned companies to continue to provide support and assistance to those marginalised from society, such as thalassemia patients. The President made this appeal while speaking at the ceremony held Wednesday evening, to handover financial assistance from the Zakat fund, to bone marrow transplant candidates with a secured donor. At today’s ceremony, the President handed over the documents to 34 transplant candidates.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Yameen called upon all Maldivians to contribute to charity, and assist those with serious medical conditions. He said that it was the Government’s priority to provide a better life for those marginalised from the society, and those in need of special care.
Underlining the efforts taken by the Government to highlight such social issues, the President noted the tremendous support received from the public and private sectors. In this regard, the President underscored that employment opportunities have been offered by State-owned companies to persons with special needs, at the official function held to mark the International Day of People with Disability, on the 3rd of December 2014.
In his speech, the President expressed his sincere gratitude to all parties who have contributed to the Zakat fund, and appealed to them to continue in their charitable endeavours. He also noted appreciatively, the immense contributions received from the international community, especially from the Islamic community, for numerous social causes in the Maldives.
The ceremony held to handover financial assistance from the Zakat fund, to bone marrow transplant candidates with a secured donor, was also attended by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim.
