Speaking to the people of Dharanboodhoo island of North Nilandhe atoll on Saturday morning, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that economic development, and the prevalence of peace and harmony in our society was dependent on the enforcement of Islamic principles and values. The President visited Dharanboodhoo, as part of his current tour of the atoll.

Speaking in this regard, Vice President Jameel underlined the Government strategies to promote socio-economic development, while upholding the independence and Islamic identity of the country.

Vice President Jameel next visited Magoodhoo Island, as the last stop of his tour.‎ Meeting the people of the island, the Vice President reiterated the Government’s commitment to addressing the social challenges being faced by the people of Magoodhoo.

In this regard, the Vice President underscored the initiatives of the Government to further improve the living standard of the people, by the introduction of ‘Husnuvaa Aasandha’ scheme, to provide affordable healthcare to all Maldivians. He further highlighted the Government’s endeavor to provide affordable social housing, and of its pledge to increase the allowance of senior citizens.

In his speech Vice President Jameel highlighted the obstacles faced in the implementation of such projects. Continuing in this regard, the Vice President especially emphasized the constraints posed due to the unique geographical dispersal of the islands.
