Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that a community where monetary gain was a major influence on life, would soon be lead into destruction. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the 2013 Prize Day function of Faafu Atoll Education Centre.

At the ceremony held on Friday evening, the Vice President asked all the students and their guardians to question themselves about the real goal of their educational journey. Speaking in this regard, the Vice President said that reinforcing our faith, and restoring the deteriorating societal values through education was far more important than gaining high academic degrees.

In his speech, the Vice President reminded all the students that the real credit of the evening’s top achievements went to their parents and guardians, who selflessly continued to sacrifice their own aspirations for that of their children.

Highlighting that the Maldives was in need of educated, capable, and energetic youth to take the country forward in its developmental race, Vice President Jameel noted that a majority of the State’s expenses were spent on the improvement of the country’s education system. In this regard, the Vice President underlined the launching of Government’s student loan scheme, and the facilitation of scholarships for those seeking higher education opportunities. He also stated the introduction of Islamic studies in to the school curriculum, in order to instill Islamic values in students.

At the function, Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed presented the award for the best all round student of Faafu Atoll Education Centre, for the year 2013.
