President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has departed to China on Thursday evening, to attend the opening ceremony of the 2nd youth Olympics Games, on the invitation of the Chinese Government. The ceremony will be held at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Saturday, 16th August.

During his visit to China, President Yameen will meet with President Xi Jinping of China, Mayor of Suzhou City, and Chinese business leaders. Further, the Government of Maldives and the Government of China will hold official talks, and important bilateral agreements will be signed between the two countries, in the areas of trade and economy.

Meeting the local media prior to his departure, President Yameen said that apart from attending the opening ceremony of the 2nd Youth Olympics, the President and the official delegation will work on attracting more investors to the Maldives, and secure Chinese assistance for the Government’s developmental projects.

During his visit to China, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor, Minister of Economic Development, Hon. Mohamed Saeed, and Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mohamed Maleeh Jamal.
