The Cabinet has today finalized the guidelines through which uninhabited islands will be leased for fisheries and agricultural purposes. Referring to a paper prepared by the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Members of the Cabinet had previously discussed the drafting of these guidelines, in the Cabinet meeting held on 15 June 2014.
In this regard, the Members deliberated the changes required to be brought to the existing draft of the guidelines. The Cabinet further decided on the implementation of the revised guidelines in the leasing of uninhabited islands for fisheries and agricultural purposes.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom also briefed the Cabinet on the details of the state visit to be made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka.
