The new Ambassador of Greece accredited to the Maldives, H. E. ‎Ionnis E. Raptakis ‎ presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla ‎Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.‎

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present ‎credentials, President Yameen welcomed Ambassador Raptakis to the ‎Maldives, and congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his ‎term. ‎

Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the ‎‎Ambassador discussed bilateral relations that exist between the two ‎‎countries and ways to further strengthen ties.‎

The President and the Ambassador further explored opportunities ‎‎for increasing cooperation between the Maldives and Greece on issues of ‎counter-terrorism. They also discussed avenues for easing Schengen visa ‎regulations for Maldivians travelling to Europe.‎

The meeting was attended by Minister at the President’s Office, ‎Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer ‎Mohamed.‎
