The new Ambassador of Greece accredited to the Maldives, H. E. Ionnis E. Raptakis presented his letter of credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present credentials, President Yameen welcomed Ambassador Raptakis to the Maldives, and congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his term.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed bilateral relations that exist between the two countries and ways to further strengthen ties.
The President and the Ambassador further explored opportunities for increasing cooperation between the Maldives and Greece on issues of counter-terrorism. They also discussed avenues for easing Schengen visa regulations for Maldivians travelling to Europe.
The meeting was attended by Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
