President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has met with senior Governing Board Members of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), Mr. C. A. Suboodh Kumar Agarwal and Mr. Arjuna Herath, President and Vice President of SAFA, respectively. The SAFA delegation was joined at the meeting by Auditor General Mr. Niyaz Ibrahim.

At the meeting held this morning at the President’s Office, the Governing Board Members underscored the commitment of SAFA to developing and maintaining the quality of the accountancy profession in the SAARC region, and assured the President of their willingness to work closely with the Auditor General’s Office and other concerned Government authorities.

President Yameen expressed his gratitude to SAFA for their continued assistance to the accountancy profession in the Maldives, and assured SAFA of the Government’s commitment to working alongside local and international partners to foster the development of local accountants. In this way, the President stated that the Government would welcome the establishment of an accountancy institute in the Maldives, in order ensure compliance of Maldivian accountants to international standards.
The meeting was attended by the Ministers at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Hon. Abdulla Ameen.
