President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has arrived back in Male’ on conclusion of his State Visit to Sri Lanka. The President and Frist Lady arrived this evening.

On arrival at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, the President briefed the local media on the successful visit, and said that his visit has strengthened further, the close relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The President described Sri Lanka as the Maldives’ closest neighbor, and highlighted the key areas of discussion during his trip, and the agreements that were signed between the two governments.

Noting that the population of Maldivians residing in Sri Lanka was over 14000, the President briefed on the discussions held with the Sri Lankan government regarding the difficulties being faced by Maldivians in the areas of health, education, and in issuing dependent visa. He said that the Sri Lankan government has assured the Maldives’ government that the concerns would be addressed, and favorable solutions found.

President Yameen said that the government of Maldives has decided to allocate a land plot in Male’, for the High Commission of Sri Lanka, as a gesture of friendship.

The President further highlighted his meeting with the Arab diplomats in Sri Lanka. He said that it would further expand the cooperation between the Maldives and the Arab world.

President Yameen also took some questions from the media, regarding his State Visit to Sri Lanka.
