President Dr Mohamed Waheed has met with Admiral Mohamed Asif Sandila, Chief of the Naval Staff of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Waheed congratulated Admiral Sandila on being awarded the Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy (Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege). The medal was awarded to Admiral Sandila this morning, in recognition of his humanitarian assistance to the Maldives in the aftermath of the devastating tsunami that hit the Maldives on Dec 26, 2004.
Admiral Sandila said he considered the award a great honour and pride, and thanked the government and the people of the Maldives for awarding him the prestigious award.
President and Admiral Sandila also discussed ways of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries, in the area of maritime security.
