President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that it would be impossible to assess the value of the contribution teachers have made to the country. The President made this remark while speaking at a function held last evening, to celebrate this year’s Teachers’ Day in Majeediyya School.
In his speech, the President noted the enormous involvement of teachers in the development of this country, and expressed his appreciation for all their hard work. The President also noted that a high number of people who occupied important positions in government and private sector in this country today were graduates of Majeediyya School.
Highlighting the many challenges being faced by teachers, the President said that those problems have been there for years. He expressed concern that the issues still remained unresolved.
Speaking in this regard, the President said that the government was unable to overcome the problems, partly due to the serious financial difficulties the country was going through. He further said that the country still has not been able to recover the economic difficulties it has been facing since the 2004 tsunami. He added that the government’s expenditure would always be more than its revenue.
