President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today recommenced the housing project for families of Maldives National Defence Force officers.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that MNDF officers too need to be ensured their rights as Maldivian citizen. He said that what made MNDF officers exceptional was the oath they have taken, to face any threat, and to be prepared to sacrifice their lives for the country.
In his speech, the President noted the importance of the project, saying that it must be an on-going one. He also said that in the past, the government has not given enough attention to the welfare of MNDF officers’ families.
In his speech, President Waheed stated that the government would make sure that the project was not suspended again. In this regard, the President said that the next phase of the scheme was the construction of 300 flats for MNDF officers’ families. He also said that those 300 flats would be completed in the next year, and handed over to the families.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President said that it was not being done as a favour from those in power, but rather as the duty of the government.
