President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today inaugurated the Special Constabulary of the Maldives Police Service. The ceremony was held at the Islamic Center.
Speaking at the function, the President highlighted the importance of the police force being immune to any political influence. In this regard, the President said that the efforts of senior officials of the police force were especially important in protecting the force from being affected by such influences. He said that if politicians were able to interfere with the force in any way, it would mean that the force has lost all professionalism and credibility.
In his speech, President Waheed assured that he has never given an order to the police for personal gains, since his assumption of office as President of the Maldives. Furthermore, the President said that all necessary steps were being taken to ensure that the Police Service functioned independently. He said that the peace and safety of the country strongly depended on the strength of its police force.
Speaking in this regard, the President noted that we must all be vigilant of those trying to rob the country of the peace and contentment among the people.
