President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appealed to all government employees to be more attentive in providing public services to the people. The President made this appeal while speaking to the people of Makunudhoo on Thursday. The President met with the people of the island as part of his current tour of some islands in the South Thiladhummathi Atoll.

Speaking to the people of the island, the President said that providing public services was actually a service to the nation. He said that we should not just consider our jobs as a means of obtaining an income, and that those public service providers need to put in more working hours. Speaking in this regard, the President said that those serving in the public service sector must be more serious in performing their jobs.

Noting that government employees were usually very responsible and accountable in their work, President Waheed noted that however, the challenges they face cause them to decline in their work performance. In this regard, the President said that in developing countries such as the Maldives, we have to put in an extra effort and tackle those challenges. The President also spoke on the importance of providing uninterrupted public services to the people.
