President Mohamed Nasheed has appointed two island councillors. The two newly appointed councillors are:
- Mr Ibrahim Khaleel as the councillor for Thimarafushi of Kolhumadulu atoll
- Mr Adam Abdul Rahman as the councillor for Maavashu of Hadhdhunmathi atoll
