As part of the 77th anniversary celebrations of police service in the country, the Maldives Police Service has today begun to use police bicycle.

Using police bicycles in the Maldives Police Service was officially inaugurate by President Mohamed Nasheed, at a function held at Jumhooree Maidhaan this afternoon.

To inaugurate police bicycles, President Nasheed rode a bicycle around Jumhooree Maidhaan. He was accompanied by the First Lady Laila Ali, and Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed. Afterwards, the President and the First Lady rode the bicycles to Muleeaage, the Official Residence of the President.

Speaking at the function, Commissioner of Police Ahmed Faseeh said introducing police bicycles was a step forward to help realise the Maldives’ carbon neutral goal. He said this initiative was also aimed at promoting an environmentaly friendly lifestyle among Maldivians.

The Maldives Police Service will be using bicycles for patrolling and providing other law enforcement services in Male’ and atolls.
