President Mohamed Nasheed has sent messages of felicitations to the President of Sri Lanka, Mr Mahinda Rajapaksa on the occasion of Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.
The President’s message reads as follows:

“As Sri Lanka celebrates the anniversary of Independence it gives me great pleasure to extend warm greetings and sincere good wishes of the Government and the people of the Maldives and those of my own, to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Sri Lanka. This Independence Day is particularly joyous as it comes after the conflict that spanned over 30 years.
I am confident that the close relations of friendship and co-operation that exist between our two countries will continue to strengthen in the years ahead.
Please accept my personal best wishes for your good health and happiness, and for further progress and welfare of the affable people of Sri Lanka.”
