Ambassador of the United States accredited to the Maldives Michele J. Sison has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, discussions were held on the current political and economic state of the Maldives. The President assured that maintaining stability and calm in the country was a top priority.

He also said the government does not influence the works of any independent institution or law enforcement agencies.

Noting that the country’s economic situation was improving, the President said foreign investments in the Maldives were increasing as well.

Environmental issues faced in the islands were also highlighted at the meeting. The President briefed the US Ambassador on the steps being taken by the government towards making the Maldives a biosphere reserve.
