President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said he was hopeful that developmental work for the islands would continue in spite of the budgetary difficulties the country was facing. He made this statement while speaking at the agreement signing ceremony of road networks in 6 islands. The six islands are Dhidhdhoo of Haa Alif atoll, Hanimaadhoo of Haa Dhaalu atoll, Kudahuvadhoo of Dhaalu atoll, Vilufushi of Thaa atoll, Villingili of Gaaf Alif atoll and Thinadhoo of Gaaf Dhaal atoll. He said due to the budgetary issues, all the developmental projects would not be run all at once.

The President said with the completion of the road construction project, the six islands will see many other developments as well.

President Waheed further noted that there were several other works that should be done before the commencement of the road construction project. In this regard, he noted the importance of having a land use plan as well as completion of other infrastructure projects before the commencement of the projects.

In his speech, President said he was confident that the road construction work would soon be completed. He also called for the cooperation and support of island councils in the work.
