Commonwealth Secretary General’s special envoy Sir Donald McKinnon has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, President Waheed said that the government’s top priority for this year was the presidential elections. He said that the government would undertake all necessary measures to ensure a free and fair election.
The President briefed the Special Envoy on the current political and economic status of the country. He also highlighted the political reform needed in the country, and the steps being taken by the government to address the economic challenges.
McKinnon assured of Commonwealth’s support to the Maldives in ensuring a free and fair elections as well as a smooth transition.
