President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged the people of the Maldives, not to allow the political rivalry during the presidential elections to hinder the developmental efforts of the country.
The President made this statement while addressing the people of Bilehfahi Island, as part of his current tour of some islands in the Miladhummadulu Atoll. Speaking in this regard, the President appealed for cooperation and support of eeryone, especially the assistance from senior members of the society.
The President expressed deep concern over the existing political polarisation in the country. Highlighting the impact of the change brought to the political mechanism in Maldives, President Waheed noted that it has caused deep divisions within our communities, despite the positive intentions to create a politically competitive atmosphere whilst safeguarding development. He noted that these differences were evident in small and larger communities. The President further said that reducing these differences and prioritizing other areas of development is the way forward for the Maldives.
In his speech President Waheed underlined the unwavering commitment of the Maldivian people in achieving their goals, saying that it was from this dedication that he seeks support in fulfilling his assignment.
Continuing in this regard, the President stressed the importance of national unity and harmony in realizing our developmental goals. Further, he urged for cooperation from the people in safeguarding our nationality and religion, and upholding our communal ties.
