President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today visited the island of Gemanafushi, as part of his current tour of some islands in the North Huvadhu Atoll.
Meeting the people of the island, the President expressed his pleasure to see the unity and brotherhood among the people of the island. He commended the people for their teamwork in bringing about development for the island.
Noting that Gemanafushi was a fishing island, the President assured that the government would provide any assistance and support needed in the fisheries sector. In his speech, the President praised the work of the Corporate Society in the island, expressing his hopes that the society would be able to support the fishermen and their families. He also stated his hopes that the quality and prices of fish and fish products would be controlled, through the Corporate Society.
