New Ambassador of Azerbaijan accredited to the Maldives, Ibrahim Hajiyev presented his letter of credence to President Dr Mohamed Waheed this morning.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Waheed welcomed Ambassador Hajiyev.

Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen the existing relations between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.

At the meeting, President Waheed expressed his hopes that during Ambassador Hajiyev’s tenure, the bilateral cooperation between the two countries would further strengthen. He also said that foreign investors were always welcome in the Maldives.

Ambassador Hajiyev said that it was an honour for him to be able to serve the Maldives as the new Ambassador of Azerbaijan. He assured that during his term, the he would put in every effort to explore areas to further the bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and Azerbaijan.

The Ambassador praised President Waheed on his efforts to restore peace in the Maldives during the recent political unrest, and congratulated him. Ambassador Hajiyev invited President Waheed to make a visit to Azerbaijan, on behalf of the Azerbaijani president. President Waheed accepted the invitation with gratitude, and invited the Azerbaijani President to visit the Maldives.
