President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with members of the N. Lhohi Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions today, to discuss the island’s key development priorities. The meeting took place at Lhohi School.
During the discussion, Council members raised concerns regarding the inclusion of Goan’bilivaadhoo under Lhohi’s jurisdiction, emphasising its significance to the island’s economic activity. They also highlighted the need to make the harbour channel navigable and urged the Government to expedite the harbour development project, including the addition of a boat docking area adjacent to the harbour.
Further requests included the construction of multipurpose halls and resource rooms for the school, the development and conservation of designated beach areas for public and tourist use, and the introduction of a loan scheme for islands lacking existing housing programmes. The Council also reiterated the importance of constructing the international harbour wall, as previously pledged by the President.
In response, President Dr Muizzu assured that the Government would review the concerns raised and work towards appropriate solutions. He also shared updates on ongoing development projects on the island, alongside Cabinet Ministers and heads of State-Owned Enterprises who accompanied him on the visit.
