British High Commissioner to the Republic of Maldives John Rankin has today paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held at the President’s Office this afternoon.
At the meeting, President Waheed and the High Commissioner discussed extensively, the current political situation in the Maldives. The President briefed the British High Commissioner on the preliminary measures being taken by the government towards the presidential election of 2013.
High Commissioner Rankin expressed his hopes that next year’s elections will be carried out smoothly and independently. He also assured the President of the UK’s continuous support for political stability in the Maldives.
