The UN Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Mr Oscar Fernandez-Taranco has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, the President briefed the UN Assistant Secretary General on the current political situation and economic state of the country. The President expressed his confidence that the presidential election to be held next year in the Maldives would go smoothly.
The UN Assistant Secretary General underlined that it was the UN’s duty to assist build the democratic institutions in any country. The UN Assistant Secretary General also ensured that the organisation would provide its assistance in ensuring free and fair presidential election next year.
