President Mohamed Waheed visited Guraidhoo and met with the people of the island on Saturday.

In his speech, the President highlighted the issue of over-population faced by the island. As a solution, the President proposed island reclamation. The President also discussed provision of sewerage and waste management systems to the island.

The President said his administration would not discriminate between islands, political parties, or people, but try to treat all with fairness, justice and equality.

He pledged that services available from the island health centre would be expanded, while work on island harbour would start next year, and construction work of the mosque would be completed next year.

President Waheed arrived in Guraidhoo on Saturday morning. The President and the First Lady received a warm welcome from the island. The President is scheduled to visit Gulhi later on Saturday.
