President Dr Mohamed Waheed has met with the people of Maafushi this afternoon, as part of his current visit to the island. The President and First Lady arrived in Maafushi this morning.
Addressing the people, President Waheed said that he makes it a priority to meet the residents of each island he visits, and enquire on their wellbeing. In his speech, the President underlined the need to look into possible ways to expand the tourism business in the island.
Noting the high number of tourists visiting the island, President Waheed also said that more tourist facilities were required in the island to cater to the needs of the tourist visitors. The President further said that if tourism in Maafushi could be made a success, it could be possible in any other inhabited island.
In his speech, President Waheed highlighted the developmental projects planned for the island. He assured that all projects would be closely monitored and thoroughly studied, and be carried out in the best way possible.
