President Dr Mohamed Waheed has expressed his hopes that the next six months would bring further development for the Maldives. The President made this remark in his address to the people of Nilandhoo of Faafu Atoll, as part of his visit to the island.
Speaking at the function held last evening, the President highlighted some of those projects that would be completed in the next six months, that were already underway.
In his speech, President Waheed said that the government was always exploring ways to increase revenue for the country. He reassured that he would never comply with corruption, or depend on huge foreign loans. The President further said that the government functioned on a self-sufficient basis, giving priority to what was absolutely necessary.
Noting that the past 8 months had been a very unique experience in the Maldives’ history, the President said that we have not yet overcome the societal unrest we faced in that period. The President further said that the enemies of the Maldivian people were continuously trying to belittle the people of the Maldives, destroy the country’s economy, and to create disharmony in the country.
Speaking in this regard, the President said that the government was vigilant of these “threats”, and that those trying to destroy the country and create disruption would not be tolerated. Reflecting on the experience of the past 8 months, the President expressed his confidence that the country was capable in moving forward, and that the future presented days of joy and harmony for the country. He also expressed his hopes of the prompt establishment of primary services that were required by the people.
On conclusion of their visit to Faafu Atoll Nilandhoo, the President and First Lady arrived in Bandidhoo of Dhaalu Atoll this morning.
