Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Mr Zhao Qizheng has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen today.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the officials noted that it was a remarkable milestone that this year marked the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and China. Discussions were held on ways to further strengthen the close bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Vice President noted that expanding commercial cooperation between the two countries was needed, and that it was important for Chinese investors to explore opportunities in the Maldives. He also expressed his gratitude to the Chinese government for their continuous assistance provided in various areas of need in the Maldives.
Noting the good relations between the governments of both countries, the Vice President underlined that it was now time for the private sector of the two countries to extend cooperation, in the development of bilateral relations.
At the meeting, Mr Zhao Qizheng noted the popularity of the Maldives among Chinese tourists. Stressing the importance of investors from the Maldives visiting China to seek investment opportunities there, Chairman Zhao Qizheng said that China was always exploring ways to further develope relations with Maldives. He further said that China always treasured the support from Maldives in the international arena, and said that it was important for all the nations to regard each other with respect and equality, regardless of size.
