New Ambassador of Germany accredited to the Maldives, Dr Jürgen Morhad presented his letter of credence to President Dr Mohamed Waheed this morning.
At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Waheed congratulated Ambassador Morhad, and welcomed him to the Maldives.
Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Germany. The President expressed his gratitude to the German government, for their support and assistance provided in building the tourism sector, and in tackling the environmental issues being faced in the Maldives.
Highlighting the political, social, and fiscal challenges being faced in the country today, President Waheed underlined the importance of conducting capacity building programmes for the youth. He noted that such programmes would in turn solve the unemployment issues in the Maldives.
Further, the President shared with the Ambassador, the measures being taken by the government in strengthening the very young democracy in the Maldives.
At the meeting, German Ambassador Dr Jürgen Morhad said that he looked forward to working with the Maldivian government, to identify the areas of need for the country, and provide the necessary assistance. The Ambassador also encouraged dialogue among all political parties in order to establish a more harmonious political environment in the Maldives.
