Dr Abdulhamid Alkhalifa, President of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), paid a courtesy call on His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Saturday afternoon at the President’s Office.
President Dr Muizzu warmly welcomed Dr Alkhalifa and his delegation, expressing his appreciation for their visit to the Maldives to witness the 60th Independence Day celebrations and attend the inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport. Dr Alkhalifa conveyed his pleasure at participating in the opening ceremony and expressed his deep honour at being invited to commemorate this significant milestone.
During the meeting, President Dr Muizzu extended his sincere gratitude for OFID’s longstanding support, particularly in relation to the airport development project. Potential avenues for future collaboration were also explored, including climate change adaptation, renewable energy, water and sanitation, and broader infrastructure development.
Dr Alkhalifa acknowledged the nearly five-decade-long partnership between OFID and the Maldives, reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to supporting development and strengthening bilateral cooperation.
