As part of their current visit to China, President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain this morning toured the renewable energy industrial zone in Xinjiang Province of China.
The President and First Lady first visited the Urumqi Industrial and Technical Development Corporation. On their arrival, the executives and staff of the corporation received the President and First Lady with a warm welcome. At the centre, the President and First Lady viewed a 3D presentation of the development of the Urumqi zone, and some products being manufactured there.
President Waheed then visited the Gold Wind Tech Company, a company specialised in the production of wind turbines. At the Gold Wind Factory, the President was welcomed by the executives and all the staff of the company. During his tour of the factory, the executives of the company demonstrated the generation of electricity with the wind turbines.
Minister of Environment and Energy Dr Mariyam Shakeela, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mr Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla accompanied the President on these visits.
President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain will arrive back in Shanghai this evening after concluding their visit to Xinjiang Province. The President and First Lady will meet members of the Shanghai local government.
