Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has today inaugurated the golden jubilee celebratory events of the Voice of Maldives (VOM), marking its 50th anniversary. At the ceremony held this morning, the Vice President officially launched the golden jubilee logo and golden jubilee song of Voice of Maldives.

Broadcasting services in the Maldives began on 29 December 1962.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President highlighted the early days of the radio station, and said that VOM had always worked at providing factual information to the people. He also pointed out that today it was most vital that the people are provided with genuine information and both sides of a story. In his speech, the Vice President stressed that 50 years was a long period of service, during which a lot of individuals had contributed to the VOM.

Vice President Waheed Deen also highlighted the importance of keeping in mind that the Maldives is an Islamic country, as we work towards development and advancement.

In his speech, the Vice President expressed his hopes that the Voice of Maldives would further improve its work, and that the young talents among us would be put to good use.
