A code of ethics outlining standards of conduct of political appointees is to be implemented starting from today, the 1st of July. The code will be applicable to those employees appointed by letter of the President or Cabinet Secretary under Article 115 of the constitution, with the exception of Cabinet Ministers.
The code of ethics outlines principles and behaviours expected from political appointees in the performance of their duties. According to the new code political appointees should work in line with government policies, the constitution and the laws of Maldives.
General guidelines on aspects such as attendance, annual leave and resignation are also outlined in the code.
Cabinet Ministers follow a separate code of ethics which was implemented earlier.
