Vice President Mohamed Waheeduddeen has said that tomorrow’s future needs to be shaped by teaching today’s children Islamic laws and customs, and giving them proper Islamic upbringing. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the awarding ceremony of the 27th National Quran competition today.
The Vice President said that we need to uphold Islam for the nation to maintain its nationhood. Speaking in this regard, the Vice President noted the weak social standards in the country today, and said that our children get misled because of negligence at some level of parenting and guidance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Waheeduddeen expressed his appreciation to all the winners and participants of the competition. He noted that the competition was evident of the faith and respect for Islam in our hearts.
Speaking in this regard, the Vice President said that progress and prosperity of a nation was the satisfaction of its people; and the people will be content only when they are truly faithful and devoted to their religion.
At the ceremony, Vice President Mohamed Waheeduddeen awarded prizes for the first place winners of the Quran recitation by reading and Quran recitation by memory categories, in the 27th National Quran Competition. Aishath Shamail Hussain won the first place in recitation by reading category, while Ismail Aik Mohamed won first place in the recitation by memory category.
The Vice President also awarded prizes to individuals who had achieved distinction for the country at international Quran competitions.
