The Cabinet has today expressed concern over termination of many employees, without notice, by the management of Han’dhufushi Resort at Herathera and discussed the necessary course of action to resolve the issue.
Following the discussions on the issue, the Cabinet decided to form a ministerial committee to advise on the issue. Members of the Cabinet included in the committee are Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dr Ahmed Ali Sawad, Minister of Finance and Treasury Mr Ali Hashim, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Ahmed Shaheed, Minister of Economic Development Mr Mohamed Rasheed.
After the Cabinet meeting, the committee met at the President’s Office and decided to seek an urgent resolution to the matter through the Labour Relations Authority. The committee also decided, although the island is subleased to a third party, as the owner of the property, Maldives Tourism Development Corporation to take necessary measures to maintain the property with the cooperation of concerned authorities.
