President Dr Mohamed Waheed, and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain, have met with President Pratibha Patil of India this evening.
At the meeting held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Waheed noted the close relations between the governments of Maldives and India. The President said that this visit being an invitation from the Indian government presents a great opportunity to further strengthen the existing relations between the two countries. He also noted that the Maldives had always received assistance and cooperation from the Indian government.
Highlighting the bilateral relations between the two countries, Indian President Pratibha Patil expressed her appreciation that the government of Maldives always welcomes the Indian government, in assisting the Maldives in overcoming the various challenges it faces.
