The Ambassador of Norway to the Maldives, Mr Tore Hattrem has paid a courtesy call on President Nasheed. The meeting was held this afternoon at the President’s Office.

In their meeting President Nasheed and Ambassador Hattrem discussed on the ways of strengthening bilateral relations between the Maldives and Norway.

Speaking at the meeting, the Ambassador noted that commercial development was an area of cooperation that could be further developed between the two countries. He also said that he would try to find Norwegian investments to come and take part in the private-public-partnership policy of the Maldives government. Furthermore, the Ambassador assured that the Norwegian government would continue to assist the Maldives in consolidating and strengthening democracy in the country.

President Nasheed thanked the Norwegian government for the support and assistance rendered to the Maldives during the reform process. He further briefed the Ambassador on the challenges that the government faced in strengthening democracy in the Maldives, and on the government’s plans to overcome these challenges.

The President was joined at the meeting by Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmed Shaheed.
