President Dr Mohamed Waheed has called on the people to work as one, for the sake of our religion and the nation. The President made this appeal while addressing the people of Male’-Vilingili, as part of his visit to the district this afternoon.
The President said that, for a nation to move forward, we need to wipe out the differences among us. Speaking in this regard, the President noted that to attain the democracy we want, and achieve our developmental goals, we need to establish a harmonious environment, and provide an essential level of education for our children.
Highlighting the necessity to restore peace and harmony in the country, President Waheed expressed his hopes that the unacceptable demonstrations taking place on the streets will come to an end. Saying that the current government was the people’s government, the President reassured that his government will regard all the people as equal, discounting the political parties to which we belong.
Meeting the people of Male’-Vilingili today, the President said that during his tour of the island, he had noticed that so far, Vilingili had remained very much neglected, and that the previous government had not done much for the people of Vilingli.
Following the conclusion of his visit to Male’-Vilingili, the President returned to Male’ this evening. During his visit, the President was accompanied by First Lady Ilham Hussain, some members of the cabinet, and some senior officials of the government.
