President Dr Mohamed Waheed has sent a letter of appreciation to the Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, for the warm felicitations on his assumption of office as Maldives’ President.
In his letter, President Waheed reaffirmed his government’s commitment to uphold the rule of law and protect human rights in the Maldives.
He also briefed the Prime Minister on the steps the government was taking to continue the efforts of democratic consolidation in the Maldives.
President Waheed also reassured the Prime Minister that the Maldives, as the current chair of SAARC, would continue to fulfill its roles and responsibilities pertaining to the association.
In the letter, Dr Waheed thanked the Prime Minister, the government and the people of India for its continued support and assistance.
