President Mohamed Nasheed has said that construction of Utheemu Island Harbour is set to begin this year. The President made this statement at the inauguration ceremony of Utheemu School’s Silver Jubilee Fund.

The President further spoke on the government´s strategy to develop the island´s harbour and said that seeking the views of Utheemu people was essential to carrying forward with the harbour development project.

Noting the importance of improving education and health services to further development, the President said that government expenditure for education and health services in the Maldives was relatively high in comparison with other South Asian countries.

The President and First Lady attended cultural programmes held in Utheemu this evening. The two items in the evening’s programme were a Nolhivaramfaru Youth Cultural Item and a Kelaa School ‘Maliku Dhandi’ item.

The President and First Lady tonight attended a music show held on occasion of National Day.
