Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation & Nuclear Safety Katherina Reiche has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
At meeting held at the President’s Office, President Nasheed and the Parliamentary State Secretary exchanged views on domestic and international political situations and ways to resolve the current political environment.
Additionally, the President updated the Parliamentary State Secretary on the government’s economic reform programme. Speaking in this regard, the President exchanged views with the Parliamentary State Secretary on the new tax regime adopted by the government to increase government income and build sustainable revenue streams for the State. The President indicated that these reforms allow the government to improve the economical status of the country.
Further, President Nasheed enlightened the Parliamentary State Secretary on the government’s progress towards mitigating the consequences of climate change in the Maldives, and spoke on adopting economic solutions to the country’s energy concerns and lobbying for carbon neutrality.
