President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, and met with the senior officials of the hospital and senior officials of the Male’ Health Service Corporation.

The President’s visit to the hospital comes subsequent to the introduction of the government’s new universal health insurance scheme “Aa Sandha”, to observe the implementation of the service at the hospital. Health coverage under “Aa Sandha” began yesterday, 1 January 2012.

At the meeting with the senior officials of IGMH and Male’ Health Service Corporation, discussions were held on the changes to be brought to hospital fees, following the execution of “Aa Sandha”. The President and the senior officials also discussed means of upgrading healthcare services, as well as expanding the scope of services provided at the hospital.

During his visit to IGMH, President Nasheed met with the local media, and answered some questions posed to him regarding the new health insurance scheme.
