Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said that, our own unreasonable actions, such as disrespecting other’s opinions and putting forward our preferences, and regarding every person you disagree with as a foe, could quite easily lead to civil disorder in the country.

The Vice President made these remarks while speaking at the special function held last evening, to celebrate the recognition of Maldivian Red Crescent as the 187th national society of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

At the function held at Hiriyaa School, Vice President Dr. Waheed said that it is our responsibility to prevent any misconduct in the country, expressing his concerns about the current social and political conflicts in the Maldives.

The Vice President also spoke on the lessons to be learnt from natural disasters and man made crises we face, noting that the most important lesson is disaster preparedness.

Highlighting the many activities carried out by the International Red Cross And Red Crescent in the Maldives, the Vice President expressed his gratitude to the association for the different training programmes held in the islands, and empowering Maldivian youth.
