WHO Deputy Regional Director for South-East Asia and WHO Representative calls on the President

WHO Deputy Regional Director for South-East Asia Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh and WHO Representative Doctor Akjemal Magtymova has paid a courtesy call on the President this afternoon.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, discussions were focused on challenges faced by the Maldives in the areas of health, government health policies and areas of WHO assistance to the Maldives.

Speaking at the meeting, President Nasheed said the Maldives has many issues that it needs to address in terms of public health. He said the government wanted to promote the development of the health sector through programs such as child nutrition.

During the meeting, Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh underscored the importance of addressing social determinants of health, in promotion of public health. She also assured the President of continued WHO leadership and guidance to the Maldives in issues related to health.
