Assistant Secretary General at the United Nations and the Assistant Administrator at UNDP Mr. Ajay Chhibber has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed this morning.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office, President Nasheed expressed his gratitude to the United Nations, especially UNDP, for the continued assistance provided to the Maldives. He also noted the importance of maintaining the link between the organisation and the Maldives, for the further development of the areas where aid is much needed.
President Nasheed further updated Mr. Ajay Chibber on the current political environment and other social issues faced in the country.
The UN Assistant Secretary General spoke on the significance of developing certain institutions in the country, for the transition through the Maldives’ middle income economical status, and said that it was imperative to assess and recognise those areas.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed, Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Advisor on Political Affairs Mohamed Shihab, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem.
