The new Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Nobuhito Hobo has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed this afternoon.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the Vice President congratulated Ambassador Hobo on his appointment, and exchanged ideas on further strengthening the close mutual relations between the Maldives and Japan.

Highlighting the importance of shifting to renewable sources of energy, Vice President Dr. Waheed noted that a renewable energy power system would certainly be more economic. He also briefed the Ambassador on the government’s works currently underway for the transition to renewable sources of energy in the place of fuel power.

At the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Maldivian government, following the tsunami that hit Japan earlier this year.
