Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today officially started government offices’ voting campaign for the Maldives in its bid to become one of the New7Wonders of the Nature.

At a function held at the President’s Office to kick-start voting by government offices, the Vice President said making it to the list of New7Wonders of Nature was linked to the long-term survivability of the Maldives.

The Maldives, which is famous for its natural beauty, is one of the most ecologically vulnerable countries in the world. Its effort to become one of the new seven wonders of nature therefore is a global climate-change “consciousness-raising” exercise.

The Vice President said becoming one of the seven wonders of nature will draw the world’s attention and interest to the country.

“The Maldives is the most beautiful place on earth. Everybody envies the natural beauty of the country,” added the Vice President.

The government believes that becoming one of the seven wonders will also enhance the country’s popularity as a tourist destination.

On Tuesday the Cabinet decided to pull its weight to garner votes for the Maldives in the New7Wonders of Nature competition.
